Special Praise And Writing Long Bits
SPEAKER_02And here's Modi, everybody. Welcome back. We are in the studio with comedian extraordinaire Jared Freed, my husband Leo Vega. Hello. And me, Modi here. And here's Modi. And we are uh we were in full discussion before we began on Jared Fried new special called Family Plan, coming out on Netflix September 1st. We got a preview of it, and we were rolling in the apartment. And we usually don't.
SPEAKER_03Thank you. That means the world. I you know, comedians, you know, you're watching special, you watch them all. I watch them all.
SPEAKER_02He watches them all, and I watch him watch it. Right. And you can see him go, no.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_02And it's enough. It's enough of that. I got it. I got it. Your special, if I have to describe it, I'm gonna say a few things. Okay. When you write comedy, you write bits. There's a bit. There's comics who do jokes. Uh like a Mark Norman Samurai. It's it's ba-da-ba-ba, and that's what she did. That comedy. Comedy. Okay. Now, bit writers, which is Jared and me, there's a bit. It has a beginning, it has an end, it has taglines in the middle, and that's and that's what it, and you pray for a good bit. I find them whenever I'm with friends having dinner or whatever, and I say something funny and they laugh. I go, Oh, there we go. Pop it on the comedy seller stage. Let's see what we can add. Jokes. Leo gives a few punchlines, my opening act a few punchlines, and we're great. Yep. And that's and it has that that's a bit, and each hour has a few bits. This was one big bit. Thank you. It was wild. Wow, that means the world. I'm so happy you said that. And you ventured off out of nowhere. And it came back to the bed. It goes, don't forget where we are. Yeah. Yeah, so we're at the beach. We're on the beach.
SPEAKER_03That no, that makes me feel so good. That is the greatest compliment I could ever get. It is. It's one, it's a one-hour story about going to the beach with my parents. And that's how I explain it. And that's what I tell people. And it's about the millennial boomer relationship. It's about my family. It's about body issues. It's about it's my life story. It truly is. And it happened in 2018. I'm in Delray Beach, and my dad is sitting across from me, and he goes, How much do you weigh? And I was so annoyed. And that became, I, you know, just like you said, I go, I go to the cellar, let me see what this, let me see if people, if their eyes, you know, get wider. You know, let me see if and you and I saw a few people connecting, and it like kind of didn't work. And then I was like, well, let me explain my family. And I'm like, well, we vacation together and I'm an adult. So then I do that joke, and that was killing right away. So I'm like, now that you know, the joke that kills gives you confidence to work on the one that doesn't. Right. So I'm doing the we vacation as adults with my parents, and I'm seeing people, they're getting that right away. And I'm like, okay, I can get you to the other one. So it grew from a one-minute story to a five-minute story to a 10. And then I'm at like, I'm in, I'm doing like it's a 20-minute bit, and I'm doing it in like Norway. Like I did it in Europe. And I'm having people in Norway going, that beach story, man. That beach story. And I go, I gotta make it 45. And I got it to an hour, and uh it makes me really thank you so much. Because it means the world that you saw, that you both saw that that's like what I what I did.
SPEAKER_02A hundred percent. And the delivery is not the delivery, there's no monotone, so it's like a
Catskills Legends And Jewish Comedy DNA
SPEAKER_02ha. I I have to tell you, and this is nothing to do with body size or anything. It's uh the energy is Jackie Gleason.
SPEAKER_03I I appreciate that's what I heard that. I've heard that. I've heard Jackie Gleason. You know who just got in touch with me? Um, what's her name? Her dad was a borscht belt guy.
SPEAKER_02Uh Sheba Mason.
SPEAKER_03No, not Sheba. Um, she got in touch with me. She's like, You remind me of my dad, and I went and looked it up, and I was like, We have the same body type. Like it was crazy. Her dad, I'm looking it up right now because it was on it was on TikTok that she messaged me, and I'm just making sure I get her name right. Because her her dad is like a guy, is like her name's Judy.
unknownOf course.
SPEAKER_03Of course it is. Of course her name is Judy. Oh, her dad is um Freddie Roman.
SPEAKER_01Oh, wow. Freddie Roman.
SPEAKER_03She goes, This is the message I got. Freddie Roman, who is Jewish comedy legend, like this is a borschtbelt. Like, if you know history about, and like when people ask me about like, you know, Jewish stuff, this special, I mentioned being Jewish, but it's to me, it's like an episode of Seinfeld. It's not about being Jewish, but it is about being Jewish.
SPEAKER_02100%.
SPEAKER_03And Freddie Roman, if you're familiar, when I talk about being Jewish and doing stand-up, I'm like, we invented the sport. This is our, this is like our version of uh basketball. Like when Jews watch you do stand-up, it is very much our own. You have to do it right. They have to, you have to do right by them. You have to be funnier than the uncle they think is funny.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_03So when she told me Freddie Roman, she goes, uh, his name is Freddie, was Freddie Roman. You should watch his act on YouTube. I knew who he was, I knew the boys, but I go look him up. I'm like, oh my God, we have the same body, we have the same yelly type of thing. And I took that as like the nicest thing.
SPEAKER_02The nicest thing in the world. Freddie Roman. Ladies and gentlemen, Freddie Roman. Me speaking now as the last of the cat skill comedians. Did you do it? I did it. What was it like? I bought an apartment from doing cat skills. Not in the cat. I bought an apartment in New York from the work I did in the cat skills. Really? I caught the tail end of it. In my upcoming special, I talk about it. That I am the last of the cat skill comedians. 100%. Yeah. So I got to work with Freddie many times. Really? Many times. He's hysterical. He was one of the nicest people in the world, genuine. I worked with Malzy Lawrence. Anyone who's no idea what we're talking about, Google and YouTube Cat Skills on Broadway, and you'll get a feel for all of these comedians that I'm talking about. The jokes are amazing. The jokes are pow. You see an audience laugh, and I still do some of those jokes. I just did Atlantic City and I did one of those, like, you know, priest and rabbi jokes. And I'm getting major laughs throughout the whole thing. But you do one of those jokes, and all of a sudden you feel 3,000 people laughing like that. Oh, it's like a magic trick. These guys were the masters of it. Freddy was insane. I did many shows with him at the Friars Club.
SPEAKER_03I'm sure. I'm sure. I mean, he because when she said it, then I saw I'm looking him up and I'm seeing like older, him being an older guy. He's talking about his just the cadence, and it's from like it's a different era, but it's like, you know, when we see, you know, when you showed me this poster, like that is the next era. Like, I'm looking at, you know, you this with you, with like the guys that like I saw at the cellar, like, you know, this isn't our blood, you know, like it's um it's a it's it's very cool, you know.
SPEAKER_02Well cadence-wise, let's discuss that. So you your cadence is there's no room for you're delivering a comedy special, not a podcast that's a one-man podcast. There is you're in you're jabbing, bopping, you're catching them at the end of their laugh and then hitting them again. You're giving them a chance to laugh, yeah, but then popping in. And then you're guiding them through when you said to them, uh, we have 20 more minutes on this topic.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It was amazing. It was, I was, I was I literally turned to Leo. I go, Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, because they don't get the premise. They're like, uh, and I'm like, oh God, we have 20 minutes to go on this subject.
SPEAKER_02I forgot which special it was with Jim Gaffigan, where he was talking about horses, and he goes, Yeah, is he still talking about horse? Is he gonna do another horse joke? Is he gonna do another horse joke? And but you were like, we're about to go into this thing, whatever it was. It was Rob Lowe. Rob Lowe.
SPEAKER_03The Atkins cookies, yeah. The Rob Lowe. So, what's your story with Rob Lowe? He's the spokesperson for the Atkins line of food. That's insane. He's been good looking his whole life. What the fuck? And I'm sitting there being told that I'm gonna look like him. Fuck you. And then I met him. I go. So I met him, and so if you watch the special, you'll see I do this Rob Lowe bit, and I'm giving him shit, but I only talk about people I want to give shit to. I I I I don't I don't make fun of someone to end their lives. That's crazy. So I saw him at a golf tournament in LA. It was the Netflix golf tournament. This is years ago. I'm doing the bit every night, and I go, and I say in the special, I'm like, I will go, I will say it to him. And I I and I felt my stomach turn, and I go, Jared, you promised be a man of your word. And I go, Rob, I'm Jared Freed. I'm a stand-up comedian, and I have talked about you on stage for the last two years, every night. And he goes, The Atkins bit.
SPEAKER_01Oh. He goes, I heard about it.
SPEAKER_03He goes, I heard it's hilarious. Yeah. He goes, I can't wait to watch it. I was like, Yeah, you get it. That's a perfect interaction. Perfect interaction.
SPEAKER_02Perfect, totally. By the way, you you don't even understand that you've been doing all this time in all those spaces, in all those places, people know him. Yeah. Either through through through Hollywood or maybe someone's friends, or maybe someone knows his nanny. Right, you don't do that. But anyway, um, it's people find out. I have a friend, Michael Hoffman, I talk about him, and every time I mention his name, people right away like he I get all the DMs.
SPEAKER_01He's not a celebrity.
SPEAKER_03Well, you know what's funny about that? I mention in the special I have a punchline about Fan the Taylor. Fan is a tailor in Needham, Massachusetts, who used to do my mom's every one of my mom's, you know, dresses or whatever. He did everyone's dresses. Do you know how many people came up to me and were like, oh my God, I told Fan. He knows. You know, like this gets back.
SPEAKER_02You know, and when you're wondering what these dresses look like, I can I can picture them right. I've shown them to you in my mom's closets down in the basement. Yeah. Those sequenced things that you wear to bar mitzvahs and those those over the show, those, those pads like uh Joan Collins and Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's yeah, those are those. I knew exactly when you said my mom's tailor, I knew exactly everything. I saw her whole closet. Totally.
SPEAKER_03Totally right. And that's like the what the goal of the special became is like, you know, the thing is, you know, you talk about other comics, and what do you do here? Like, and I, you know, when I made when I started telling the story, I I got a lot of fulfillment out of being someone going, That's my family. Like that you could see the picture, that you could relate to it. And I was like, I never like did this to like feel that way. Like I did this, there's no heroism in this. Like, I I want to go on stage and be funny, I want to make money, I want to be, you know, to do it well. But when people would say that, like, oh my god, I could see the dresses in your mom's closet, I could see your mom, I could see your dad, it makes me feel like you talk about the trash family on vacation.
SPEAKER_01That's that's where I relate because that's all the garbages. Yeah, the garbage, the garbage family. And also I need to come out as someone who's not on the family plan.
Family Plan Humor And Parent Dynamics
SPEAKER_01Who it was a real sensitive person. You're better than me. Well, this is a little trigger.
SPEAKER_03That's why when I talk about being on the family plan at 41 now, and my dad's trying to kick me off now, but it's getting kicked off of health insurance wasn't enough.
SPEAKER_01This is they want to kick you off of the cell you don't know.
SPEAKER_03Don't they know how hard it is to be a millennial? What's going on? It it but the family plan is like a perfect example of like the the gray of the world. Like right now, we're trying to split into people into good and bad. And who's trying and who's the Nepo baby? And it's like, I could pay my own cell phone bill. I don't want to. Yeah, the logistics are. To go to the Verizon store. Could I? It's gonna take a lot of work. But it's really let my parents fucking pay. They can pay.
SPEAKER_02You know, Leo Leo and I have each separate Verizon account. So he came 11 years ago and I met him, he had his account, I had my account, and we could save money by putting it together. Right. But they told us it takes about an hour and a half.
SPEAKER_01No, they said you need to make an appointment and carve out about two or three hours because you have to sit here in the store with join our plan. Your blood type and your social security number. And I'm like, I don't care. Just play whatever. I'm not an hour and a half.
SPEAKER_02We'll lose the $25. Whatever it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I will say I wasn't kicked off with the family plan. I left. And uh it's a very empowering feeling.
SPEAKER_03I got kicked off. I'll tell you the real story. I was on it, I was doing that bit when I first started about how I'm never getting off the family plan. I started doing that when I was 28, thinking it was funny. And then I got kicked off because at the time, data cost money.
SPEAKER_01And I was on my dad's back in the day, data.
SPEAKER_03This makes it's weird that you sound old. My dad was on a company plan. So the whole family, my cousins, my brother. And so now you have this comparative thing where it's like, don't, you know, my family, my dad was always in family businesses. It's like, don't be the one that's taking more or being a pain. Just shut up. That was my my whole childhood was just keep your mouth shut and be nice and say, you know, kiss your grandpa and grandma on the cheek when you say hello, say please and thank you, and shut the fuck up. That was our speech. That was the pump-up speech on the way into Rosh Hashada.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_03And so I'm on this family plan that's with my family's work plan, and my dad's like, I'm at the meeting, and everyone's asking, why is Jared using all this data? What the fuck are you doing? You're embarrassing me. And I was like, I listen to podcasts every morning back in the day. The podcast would automatically download every morning. So I go, I don't know, I don't know how to stop it. He goes, You're embarrassing me in front of all my siblings. You know, his siblings are at this meeting. What is Jared? Why are we spending it?
SPEAKER_01There's a big pie chart on the wall.
SPEAKER_03And if you see here, just Jared, Jared is eating more than everyone else. And I'm like, and he finally goes, get off, just get off it. And I go, I'm getting off it. And I got off the plan. Then my dad, you know, he's retired from that business. He's moved on. He calls me like three years ago. He's like, I'm at T-Mobile. How much are you paying for the cell phone bill? And I go, 200 bucks. He goes, it's 50. You're back on. So now I'm on the family plan. It's more economical. Right. And I, so I was like, of course I'm going back on. Fuck my old plan. I'm getting on yours. I'm not going 200 bucks.
SPEAKER_02I'm saving that money. You know. So now just if they understand something, I'm watching the special Knowing Your Parents. Yes. I know your parents. I performed in their what's that place they in their country club.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they they live in a uh a they live in a country club community in Boca. They are exactly who you think they are. It's they and and also Modi is their favorite comedian. My mom talks about Modi. Every chance she gets, she loves Modi, had the best time. And let me just tell you, that room is not an easy room. No, it's not. They have had other comedians come and they'll tell you exact first and last names. They will tell you who bombed, who was horrible, who didn't get it. Modi, you have a great PR team down in Boca. They will tell the world how great you are. And it's for you to go in there and sweep them off their feet like you did. Like I can't, because they asked me to do the shows there, and I'm like, there is no way on earth.
SPEAKER_02No way. It's a know your audience situation. You have to, those of you who don't understand, first of all, it's a it's a pashi club. It's a beautiful, it's very nice. It's very, very nice.
SPEAKER_03Listen, this is called the the no family plan. I right this is that's so there's no lies being told.
SPEAKER_02It's a beautiful a golf course. Many don't golf, but there's a homes and there's a gated community, and they have this center where they have events and they have and it's beautiful, and they serve them a dinner, a delicious dinner, and it's a perfect dinner because anytime anything's been bad, they've complained. So anything that's ever been bad has been taken off and fixed.
SPEAKER_03This is the reason I hated when I moved. I moved to a new building in Harlem when I first my the first apartment I ever bought was on 131 in Harlem, and it was a brand new building, and I had nothing but issues. And I said the reason and I had come from a building on the Upper East Side where management had been, you know, beaten down by the Jewish women who had lived there before me. They trailed, they made a pathway. I was walking in their footsteps, and I was like, I don't have the ability to go to the board.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03These you know Ruths and Helens that came before me. I was like, I am so not equipped to tell them why how the dry cleaning should be delivered.
SPEAKER_02Right. So so I'm at this club. So so now Jared's mom sees me in the Jared's parents see me in the parking lot, walk me in, and they before and where are you staying in? Staying, where are you eating, how are you driving, did you rent this car? The whole thing, everything. And then she goes, Let me make sure where they put you. And they put me in like it's not a green room, it's like the other side of the ballroom with chairs lined up and all that. But that was like they made a green room for it for me. And your mother just kept coming back with all her friends. Yes. These are the Goldbergs, these are the Schwartzmans. They live, they used to live next door to us, but now they live two, two, they're not that happy with where they are now, but they used to be happy. I told them to stay. And so now this is I'm going over my notes and bits. Yeah. Yeah. And then just and then you just look out, and it's everybody from like 60, 60 to 160.
SPEAKER_03To 152, yeah. They they have it all there. It's it's gotten younger a little bit, which is Florida's getting younger. Florida's getting younger. I mean, I live in Delray Beach. I live 25 minutes away. Yeah, they their their community, like it's it's it's truly nonstop there. Like, I I mean you need stuff to do because you're not in New York and like you're in your house all day, otherwise. Right. They my parents are the most busy people I've ever met my entire life. Same as this. Right. And and it's because they fill their day and then they spend half their day telling you about how they fill their day. Right. 100%. Like I go, I go, what did you do today? My dad goes, woke up, went, played nine, did a spin class, did my laps, did my abs. Who do you know that does as much as me? And I'm like, um people with jobs, you know, like he l he takes such pride in the amount. And I'm happy. I was once told there was a guy whose parents are also living, or my parents' neighbors and friends. He was like, We are so fucking lucky. So lucky. You to you want, you know, the the the unforeseen nature of having active parents that you don't like it's weird that you like you want kids you don't want to have to worry about, I would assume, but you also want parents you don't have to worry about. And I I really have no if anything, I I you know, they're still worried about me, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, no. My parents are thank god, and they're going for their first it took years, but George, Florida. They're doing, they're doing uh, they're going to Boca to Century Village, Boca Raton. They're gonna have the best time. I I'm putting money down that they're never coming back, even though they're like, they no, no, we're not doing summer there. Right. My mom is gonna have all her friends there. They already know she's coming. Yeah, no, they're Modi's mother. She's gonna be, she's gonna kill it there.
SPEAKER_03It's it there's a lot of weird, the thing you notice when you move to Florida is a lot of insecurity with moving to
Florida Culture And The Moving Question
SPEAKER_03Florida. Yeah. And it's like there's an there's an element of giving up. And which you know, I I I understand the insecurity because I have it. When someone's like, You moved to Florida, how are you doing comedy? And I'm like, Well, I'm still doing it. I'm still an airport. There's an airport, and I I go on the road, like, and I turn into this like very self-conscious person, and it took a minute to go, Jared, they're asking because they have nothing else to ask. You know, like so, but I think even older people they don't want to giving up on their youth. Moving to Florida means you're giving up on your youth, on your ability to like be on your own. But it's not that, but everyone is insecure. That's interesting. And especially, you know, when I was single, I'd go on dates. Uh, you know, it was an explanation of why this happened. What made them move here? And it's like, it's just when you notice it, you notice it because I and I'm willing to say that because I have that, you know, like I have a my dad, I'll never forget it. I get down to Florida and I'm in Delray Beach. We're on the all our discussions happen on the beach in a circle.
SPEAKER_01This is this is covered uh at length in the special.
SPEAKER_03In the special, but every talk we have, when I have a talk with my parents at the beach in a circle.
SPEAKER_01The tribe has spoken. Very survivor.
SPEAKER_03Very survivor, aunt, uncle.
SPEAKER_02It's very sephardic of you, even though you guys are not sephardic.
SPEAKER_03It's very we we were always a very Italian-coded Jew. Yes, yes, yes. Yes, yes. Always we did like a Sunday sauce. Before I had ever heard of Sunday sauce, my grandfather, he used to be a butcher, and then he would do all the cooking. And my my grandfather cooked, my grandmother yelled at him. That was every every Rosh Hashanah and Yonko. It was very Italian. I mean, like, we'd be my my grandfather, we'd have they'd have lobster bakes at my grandfather's place, having the lobsters race outside, like a very not Jewish thing, you know, but like so we're on the beach. We're on the beach in a circle, and um my dad's like, and I, you know, my dad goes, When you date here, you gotta be careful. Anyone who's 40 and lives in Florida is a runaway, something happened. On the run. On the run, they they you gotta be careful, they're a grifter, they're a loser. And I'm like, Dad, I'm 40 and move here. You're saying this about me. I'm the loser you're talking about.
SPEAKER_02So, like, I it is a thing down there, but I always uh the bit I had was that when people in Florida always are making a reason for why they're in Florida. So, like in the winter, they go, Can you believe it's 82 degrees? And they go, New York 31, they're freezing. They're freezing. Right. They just tell you what how bad it is in New York.
SPEAKER_03So it's justify it's all Schadenfreud. It's all like, yeah, no, the reason I Again, that's insecurity. I and all the Florida people is like, oh, it's full of New Yorkers. And it's like, yeah, you're fucking lucky. That's why you have a good bagel.
SPEAKER_02It's it's it's Florida's a vibe, by the way. Florida's it's changed. We for a moment were looking in Pompano Beach to buy a house. We ended up in Connecticut, which is Boko Shem, thank God. But we it's Florida's a vibe. It's not the Florida. Florida. I'm very Florida. It's not the Florida of 1990s. It's it's a different everybody's young and religious Jewish. Oh my God.
SPEAKER_03If you go, well, Aventura, I call it high-rise boca. You know, that that's you know, Aventura is like, you might you might as well be in uh in Jerusalem, you know, like that is um it is very religious, and Miami too has um I I I uh you know, I live in Delray Beach, and what I tell people, I'm like, people here are like Delray Beach, oh my god, my my Aunt Ethel, 105. Everyone here is like, oh, it's so old. Everyone in Florida is like Delray Beach, it's so young. Yep. And the reality is you just want to be close to the ocean. The closer you are to the ocean, the younger it gets because old people just don't want to be near the ocean. They don't want to do that. I didn't know that. It's a lot of work. You have to have certain types of doors, they're heavier. So that's about so as long as you're near the ocean, it's not, you have to have a certain amount of ability to be able to like be in Atlantic Avenue is just a dream. But I again, like, I like everything. Like, I'm like, when I go to a buffet, I eat.
SPEAKER_01You know, like I'm on the road, when you're on the road and you go somewhere new, do you ever have that moment where you're like, I could live here?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, everywhere I go. I have that too.
SPEAKER_01That's a thing. He doesn't have that.
SPEAKER_03You don't have that at all?
SPEAKER_02For Florida? No, no. Just everywhere. For Florida, the I Could Live Here only happens four times a year. Right. Quarterly when we pay taxes. That's when that's when the I could live in Florida comes into my head. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I I when I go to a town, it always is annoying to me when they're like, oh, you had to come here wherever I am. And I'm like, and I'm always like, I listen, someone's living the way I would live here. Like, there's a way to live here where I would live. When I go to like, when I go to Cleveland and the people from Shaker Heights come to a show and they're like, oh, it's not like New York. Yeah, of course not. I'm in fucking Cleveland.
SPEAKER_01They're always so apologetic and it's so weird. But you know what I'm doing? I'm in the green room, he's on stage and I'm on Zillow going, holy sh he's always on Zillow. He's always trying to say what it calls.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_03That's why I have a girlfriend. I she still owes I talk.
SPEAKER_02So people always tell you when you come to visit, you could live here. We're in places like Vancouver. If you come here between January 3rd and August 5th, it's beautiful. Right. Now it's meanwhile, you're looking outside, it's gray, snowy, miserable, heroin addicts. Um, but then if just January between this and that, uh some guy, it wasn't Livingston, but someplace in New Jersey, some guy was in the was at a meet and greet and just wouldn't let go. He goes, You should move to here. This is a lot of Jews are moving here. There's a lot of synagogues here. Yeah, people are either and and there's a lot of things happening here, and it's easy to get to the city. So I went with him. I go to him, I go to him, uh, I I go, Oh, is there a train that goes to the city? He goes, Yeah, so you can drive in. I go, No, I would use the train to jump on the third rail every morning because I live here.
SPEAKER_01People are either apologetic or they're lobbying for their town. Right.
SPEAKER_02Is the third rail full of things?
Making The Special A Family Event
SPEAKER_01So tell us about the special.
SPEAKER_02Are there any Wait, the special? I feel like we did. Well, this is the special. Basically, what you just saw now is like the energy of the special.
SPEAKER_03This is the special. Go watch it. Hey, listen, if By the time this airs, if you feel like this is you know, this type of kibbutz, if it feels like you know, a warm blanket to you, you're gonna love the special. Like, I and I appreciate everything you said about it because that's I really do believe, like, I'm like, this is who I am as a comedian. It makes me so happy that especially, you know, like you know, with what's going on in the world that like families who might might have a tough time around each other, whatever they're dealing with, they watch this and I they would come up to me and be like, oh my god, that that's my mom, that's my dad, that's my son, that's my you know it really is, and it's meant to be shared. It's meant to be shared. Don't just watch it at home alone and go, oh, I loved it.
SPEAKER_01You're not gonna be able to do it. And it's appropriate. You can watch it with your parents. It's not like I'm gonna be able to do it. I told people to bring their parents. I taped it in Terrytown, you want to watch it with your family.
SPEAKER_03No, I taped it in Terrytown, uh, New York, in the wet in Westchester, and I said, bring your parents. Yeah, I promise you. Yeah, and just to see people like hitting their dad being like, he's talking about you, that made me so asked.
SPEAKER_01Are there any jokes that didn't make the cut that you're like, uh we have that working on his special. I was like, and this whole 15 minutes is not for the special, but I want it. So edit it, color correct it, and edit everything.
SPEAKER_03See, that's the thing. I I generally like the story is the story, and if I have stuff I take out, it's gonna be in the next one. So, like, you know, I I'm like, let me save it so I can go on the two tapings, obviously. Two tapings, um, and then the stuff I'm doing now is very so I got so into telling this one story and going in different directions that I was like, I want to keep doing
Body Image Ozempic And Quitting Alcohol
SPEAKER_03that. Like, that's how I want to do comedy. So the next one that I'm on the road doing, yeah and I want to tape, is my dad offered me his Ozempic at dinner. So we were at dinner, and I was so angry about, and I'm like, what the fuck? And now I'm on Ozempic.
SPEAKER_01So good.
SPEAKER_03And it's the best drug I have done.
SPEAKER_01Do you have guys reaching out to you being like, thank you for talking about body image stuff?
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, I have a lot of guys do that, and a lot of like a lot of guys asking where I get my t-shirts.
SPEAKER_01Where do you get your t-shirts? Well, if they're not sponsored, we don't have to say.
SPEAKER_03Well, no, what's no, well, Buck Mason, I was on a bucket.
SPEAKER_02That does a Buck Master.
SPEAKER_03No, but I'm I was on a Buck Mason kick. If you want to go up, what's the name of the James Pierce, right? James Pierce.
SPEAKER_02That's a lot of money for shakes.
SPEAKER_01That's a lot of money for pajamas.
SPEAKER_03That's a lot of money for pajamas.
SPEAKER_01James Pearce, though. I do. James Pearce.
SPEAKER_03That's what I do that. I've gone up, I, you know, but I'm a guy. If you're a guy who or know anyone who has trouble finding t-shirts that fit, they're gonna love the special. Like I because I am I it's either a belly shirt or it's a moo moo. Right. I can't find a tailor. I'm a short, torso, wide-shouldered man.
SPEAKER_02Like here, here's something that no one really thinks about. And I introduced there's a thing called a tailor.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_02There's a thing called the tailor.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna get t-shirts tailored and then they'll grow out. I have such fear you do look good.
SPEAKER_01Modi will buy a a cheaper t-shirt and then spend $20 tailoring it, and then it looks like a five step.
SPEAKER_03Where's that from? Son of a tailor. So I've heard of this. This place comes up for me because I, again, our phones are listening to us, so I'm not sure. Nonstop, nonstop. So I, you know, I get the most insulting ones. Hey, do you want a shirt that covers your fat fuck stomach? It's like, hey, Instagram, how about you chill out for like what are you, my dad?
SPEAKER_01Wait, so you you're on Ozembic now because since from the special to now, you've lost weight.
SPEAKER_03I've lost weight. I stopped drinking. So I I've had like a I had a lifestyle shift, I guess you could call it. So the special got taped in December 2024. June 2025, my parents are like, what are you doing in New York? What's what's kind of the keeping you there? And I was like, I tape my podcast and I do shows of the cellar. They're like, you can fly back and do that anytime. Why don't you like live in Florida? Like, take a look down here. So June 2025, I moved to Del Rey. Yeah, I found like this Airbnb, I was living there, and then I was really just like I really liked it right away. I I did like the separation of like lifestyle from work. I was going on the road from there, and then I my dad and I played golf together one day, and he's like, What do you think would make you happier if you did it for a month? And I'm like, Okay, this is my Danny Tanner moment that I'm having with him. Like, this is like very like full house. And I was like, I think if I stopped drinking for a month, I'd probably feel a lot better. And my dad was like, Yeah, I think that would help. And I was like, Well, but I have Rochester coming up, and Rochester, you gotta drink in Rochester.
SPEAKER_01And then that's the curse of the comic when you're on the road and and you're in the green room and they're like, Do you want a beer? Do you want a vodka soda? What do you want? And you're trying to get time.
SPEAKER_03Or you're in the airport lounge, or you're and you're trying to like shorten the day. And then I had Nashville coming up. I'm like, oh, you gotta drink at Nashville, that's the most fun place on earth. And I'm like, fuck, I have to drink no matter what. Um so maybe it's a problem. I was like, maybe I should let me take a month, make sure I can take a month. Yeah. Took the month. This is a I get done with the month. I'm like, I kind of like this. I'm having a I'm I'm enjoying my life. I feel good in the morning. I I like to sleep. I'm having good sleeps. I'm food is I'm appreciating food in a different way. I didn't. Then another month goes by, and I go back to my parents' house. My dad goes, uh-oh. Is it a new thing? Is an alarm?
SPEAKER_02This is my alarm to take my testosterone. So kind of in this on brand for what we know. No, no, so Leo and I are in the apartment, yeah. Ah God, I forgot. And then all of a sudden, injecting a thing of testosterone. Do we need to do an injection break? I'll do GMO. So now I put it on the it even goes to the do not disturb.
SPEAKER_01Well, I can fix that. So sorry, you you're talking about nothing.
SPEAKER_03So Ann drank, a month goes by, but my I go to my parents' house, my dad goes, You still not drinking? I was like, I'm not. And he goes, damn it, I thought I would kill two birds with one stone. I was like, what are you talking about? He goes, I thought if you stopped drinking, you'd lose some weight. Jesus Christ. It's like, what the fuck is this? And I'm like, this is crazy, you asshole. And so then the offering me the so then I got on the GLP one and it was only. It helps with the drink. I I didn't really have an issue with the stopping drinking, to be honest. And that's why I don't like to say I'm sober because it's not really my he too.
SPEAKER_02He he's not as a drinking pond, but he loves the some app he gets, and he sees how many days he can go without drinking. So you're doing that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I did a challenge for myself last year, where again, I'm not a big drinker, but like if we go to dinner, I'll like a martini or something like that.
SPEAKER_03No, no, I get the the pageantry of the I like I'm I love that too, and I'm then I like having five of them. Fresca.
SPEAKER_02I like a fresca. That's what I like.
SPEAKER_01A fresca. That's all you do. I did a challenge, I said, Leo, do 365 days, no alcohol. And I made it to like 397, and then we were at our friend's party in Paris, and there was a very expensive bottle of champagne that was opened, and then uh ended that experiment. But now I'm back on.
SPEAKER_03But that's the kind of thing that I with my drinking, it's like if when I did the month, I was like, I got to this wedding, it was a friend of mine's wedding, and I was like, ah, I don't need it for this. And then I started judging experiences based on whether I would drink there or not. And then I kind of stopped doing that because I was like, if there's nothing that's getting me to drink, then let's just not just leave it and leave it.
SPEAKER_01And then, yeah, I Are you a Diet Coke drinker?
SPEAKER_03I'm a Diet Coke, but I guess that helps a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, of course. Love a Diet Coke. Coke Zero. I love a diet.
SPEAKER_03Uh coffee. I'm a big iced coffee guy. I mean, it's just I I don't have any vices really anymore. I don't smoke weed. Um, I don't do gummies. Yes, it looks really good.
SPEAKER_02Your hair, your hair feel good. In the special, your hair, I was dying. I was dying.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the hair was crazy. Dying. It just, you know, I look blown up.
SPEAKER_02And I am You weren't wearing whoever was it made you look big. Don't say that too. We can cut that out.
SPEAKER_03No, keep it because it's a family friend that dressed me.
SPEAKER_02Was it fan?
SPEAKER_01Again. Family friend again needs to be involved in that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_03It didn't cut me right. I well, listen.
SPEAKER_01I thought you looked good. I thought it was a nice color. It was like that blue suede material.
SPEAKER_02No, it was great that it was the the uh going with the background. It went with the stage. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, and again, the whole thing's about body issues, so like there's a it looks right, but you know, my body's a constant thing in my life. Like, and so like I stopped drinking, so that helps. And then I went on the GLP one only because I was playing golf with my dad and this guy, Alan Horowitz, as most stories in Boca go. And Alan is like 80 in his 80s. He used to run marathons. This guy, like an in-shape dude. He's like, it's the best drug I've ever done. I was like, You're on a GLP? It's not like Alan's getting ready for spring break. He goes, it's freed my break. He goes, it's freed my mind. He's he goes, it's freed my mind. I feel great. I go, and and you know who else? Ben Soffer, uh boy with no job, who's become a good friend of mine. Yeah. He was like, dude, it's not about losing weight. Like it's about how you feel.
SPEAKER_01It's your mental real estate around food and eating and the routine.
SPEAKER_03Totally. Like I I and so then I went on it and it's been just it's it's taken the pressure off of so much I used to have pressure on. And then, you know, and then I start uh dating my now
A Comedy Cellar Moment Becomes Love
SPEAKER_03girlfriend.
SPEAKER_02Yes, which we have to get into that. Let me say about time.
SPEAKER_03Listen, I have to. The reason why we're here. The reason we're here, I have to thank you both for introducing me to the love of my life. I I just I love her so much, and I'm uh so I uh it's like uh and it's so the story is so crazy. Yep. Do you want to do we want to tell it? So I am on the I'm at the cellar. We're in the worst room at the cellar, the bar, the the the bar room where they used to have an open bar in the room with you, so you'd hear the martinis shaking and whatever. So it's a tougher room. But we love the cellar, that's homeless. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Modi's on the room. You don't understand the comedy cellar. There's a main room, there's uh the village underground, a little bigger room, a little lounge above that, and then there's this other room that used to be a bar. I've had good sets there. I've obviously that set I had in that night was good where I met.
SPEAKER_03So you were doing great, and then this woman is heckling, and you are crushing her. Like it's just a professional crushing. Like it wasn't mean, it was meant to, you know, it was an invited crushing. And Emily's in the front row and is laughing so hard she's crying at how much you're having fun in the moment. And she's laughing so hard, and you look at her, and you're like playing her into the bit, and you say, Are you are you Jewish and single? And she's like, Yes, and then he's and then you go, uh, the next guy's cute and single and Jewish. You'll like him. And that's how you got off stage. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah, and then I go on stage. Emily doesn't remember a word I said, just Modi was hilarious.
SPEAKER_01Emily's in the room with us, by the way.
SPEAKER_03Emily's here today, and because I was like, You gotta come. I'm doing you know the podcast. Right. And Emily, you then reached out to Leo. He posted it, he posted the interaction. You posted it on Instagram, and Emily reached out to like find out who the next guy was. And then we started interacting over DM.
SPEAKER_01Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_03It ran out of steam, didn't happen, and then a year goes by and we match on Hinge. Wow. And it's Emily from the Modi's stuff.
SPEAKER_01So two more and I get to go to heaven, right? Yeah, you're almost there. Okay. So we're gonna get it.
SPEAKER_03I I'm not one to not give. I have a friend who got married, has three kids, and I introduced them. Mefagin. And they're like, and they're like, oh, it would have happened anyways. Fuck off.
SPEAKER_02Give me this. No, it's in Yiddish, it's called Mefagin. To Mefogan summer, give it to them. Yeah, Mefogan, I like that. Whenever I get to a gig, a private gig, eight people will be, it's because of me, you're here. It's because of me, you're I told them I've had that so far. I told them when they're looking for entertainment, get Modi is a great magician. Right. So, you know, so and I always say thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Thank you. I appreciate this. I'm looking forward to the show tonight. And then the next one comes in because of me, you're here. So Mafogan, you give it to them.
SPEAKER_03Mafogan, I wish I knew that word last night. We were at 12 chairs. Oh, we love chairs. Who doesn't love 12 chairs? We're having dinner, al fresco, great meal. This guy comes up, Emily goes to the bathroom. This guy comes up to me and goes, Jason. I go, I go, I'm not. I go, no. What am I supposed to say? I go, no. You're not Jason? No, I think I know my own name. What's your name? Jared. He goes, Oh, you went to Camp Cedar. I said, Yeah. He goes, we went there too. I told you. It's Jared. Camp Cedar. Him too. I'm like, well, that's not why you know me. You know me because I'm a comedian who happened to go to the same camp as you. Yeah. You don't know any other. There's seven other people in here who went to Cedar. Fuck off. Michhogan. Give me it. Mephogan. Mephogin. Give it to me. He couldn't just say. Just give it to you, Guru. Just give it to me. Man, I know you because of your comedy. And we went to camp at the same place. I feel a connection to you. Why don't you be a fucking nice mensch for two seconds? I was so annoyed. I hope he hears this.
SPEAKER_02They will, they do.
SPEAKER_03So um, so then we start.
SPEAKER_02Someone someone from Cam Cedar is gonna hear this. Do you understand that? And then it goes to the podcast effect.
SPEAKER_03That's the podcast.
SPEAKER_02Especially in the Jewish world.
SPEAKER_03Everyone's world channel. So then we get together on Hinge, you're the you know, the connection of that night, and you know, from there we dated, and and then we, you know, we get to a certain point, and I ended up ending it, and then we didn't talk for two and a half years, and then uh I'm going to Philly, and Emily lives in Philly, and I get a message uh that you know, hey, I know this. And I'd been thinking about her because I wrote a book, um, a dating book, and the dating book wasn't me telling people what to do, it was really me opening up about the insecurities and how I felt during dating. And that every man has that doesn't really get shown online. Like, I don't think male dating insecurities are really shown in an appropriate way. They're either angry men or men who are just being pieces of shit. So I was like, this is a reasonable book. And in the book, I go over like all these like reflections, and a lot of them were Emily and I dating. And then I had been thinking about her, and I got a text from her, hey, I didn't I saw you're in Philly. She saw I was in Philly because of my promoted post, so which is like they were working, they hit my algorithm. Thank God for father algorithm. And uh we went for coffee the day after my show, and you know, since then, you know, we've been uh together. And so it's been so you guys come up, you know, in our story, and on our story page. Sweet. And it makes me so happy that uh, you know, because like every story is imperfect. Like if it's a perfect story, it's not worth telling. You know, like it's not even a fun story to hear. Right. Stories, uh good stories have uh, you know, like the special. It has anger and empathy and frustrations and insecurities, and it's it's it's nice. I love that you guys are a part of it.
SPEAKER_02So we are I'm I'm honored to be a part of it. And it again, you have to be three if you make three sheduchem, three, you get to go to heaven.
SPEAKER_03Is I that's I didn't even know.
SPEAKER_02Well, and you know, Jewish women that's I'm going to heaven because I'm a common. You've given a lot of happiness. So is he. I've I'm already set. Right. But for other people, and it's good to have a backup too. You know, totally.
SPEAKER_03These federation events pay you half, and then the rest goes towards your heaven, you know, piggy bank.
SPEAKER_02So um speaking of your what one of the best things that you do and did, I don't know if you still do it, when you just walk and talk about your dates.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I you know, I I was I'm You haven't done that in a while. It's been a while. I just you have somebody already. I would walk and talk about pretty much everything, but like giving pep talks to single people and telling people how lucky they are to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_01Like, I'm the single guy, I'm out here in the trenches dating.
SPEAKER_03I never saw it that way because I was always talking about just my life.
SPEAKER_01You know, I I have it in my head, like I also kind of put you in like because you also like all those reality shows. Right, yeah, right. Yes, I forgot about that.
SPEAKER_03But you guys know, and this is the thing, this is my hope for the special, is like we do everything to do stand-up.
Stand-Up Goals And Final Plugs
SPEAKER_03You know, stand-up's the prize. You know, stand-up is the classic car that sits in your garage that you're working on and and buffing out, and and you get the new wheels and you're working on it at night in this off time of making the videos and doing the podcast. And it's like, you know, my my hope for the special is that it finds more of the people that already come see me. That's right. Because the people that come see me, I feel family in the room. I feel it. I just and I say to them, I go watch the special because I want the algorithm to find you guys, but in Sacramento. Right. You know, like I so it is, you know, the brand thing. No one was ever, you know, casting me. No one was ever, hey, you're the new hot name in comedy. Like, I and I always was like, I gotta produce. I gotta prove myself before some people they're very lucky. They don't have to prove themselves. Right. I always that's why I started a podcast, that's why I yell at the bachelor, that's why I and these are all things I have fun. Right. I always I have fun doing them. Yeah, I love doing them, but they're who I am is a stand-up, is a comic. So this special, you know, is really with the hope that it gets me to do more stand-up and kind of just like less of the other shit, you know. So absolutely and do the other shit better because right now I just do I'm I'm never shutting the fuck up.
SPEAKER_02No, never, never, not at all. Um would so don't forget September 1st family plan on Netflix. How easy, and it's already there. Like when you put Netflix on, his face is already there.
SPEAKER_03Wow, it's so great. It's not a face.
SPEAKER_02Your face is so beautiful.
SPEAKER_03It looked good, it looked good. I was happy with that. That they photoshopped the hell out of it because that, whatever angle that's going up on Netflix, I'm happy with. Gorgeous.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, can I? And it's the first thing, and it's just you just click and you're there. Um, it's amazing. But we also want to thank our sponsors. This is yeah, yeah. Um AH Provisions, the most delicious glot kosher meat. I knew he was gonna laugh when he heard that. Yes, we have a glot kosher meat.
SPEAKER_03This is like space balls. This is this is like a Mel Brooks. It's the most Emily. We wanna thank Emily. We want to thank Bernstein Brothers Tongue Factory, the best tongue.
SPEAKER_02I've I've only eaten tongue once, and it's been AH. Really? I've tried it once. And it was delicious.
SPEAKER_03Screw Bernstein Brothers.
SPEAKER_02And um, is there a Bernstein Brothers? No, I didn't. I just made it up. No, but this is real AH previously. We're not fucking up the AH uh. They're amazing. And they're also in Trader Joe's now. Seth is a friend of the podcast. Koshadogs.net, 30% off of your first order with the promo code Modi, and the holidays are coming up. That was the holidays. Yeah. And uh, and it really is, we we wouldn't take them on. They're unbelievable. And so again, thank you to Seth and everybody over at AH and uh AH Provisions and Whites and Luxembourg. The law from the not only does well, they do good, super philanthropic, and they are partners with us here. And we want to thank Arthur Luxemburg, friend and of the of the podcast, and his wife Randy, who listened to the podcast and tell him what we talk about. And Randy delivers the Jewish Center No, I'm sorry, the Center for Jewish history. The Center for Jewish history. The chaim to the Center for Jewish history. A very important place. And it's it's known for, listen to that, it's known for the biggest archive of Jewish uh historical items.
SPEAKER_01Jewish documents, memorabilia, paraphernalia.
SPEAKER_02Outside of Israel. And we keep asking, can you bring us something to bring on the show? I'm thinking like pull her off a book. Leo's like, no, that's not how it works.
SPEAKER_01You thought we were gonna walk by an exhibition case we were gonna open up. Grab a book and pop it open and here there's a book that they saved from the walls. So anyway, we brought our own artifact.
SPEAKER_03So I brought my own artifact. I can't believe you saved this for the end. I think this is such a wonderful thing.
SPEAKER_02No, this is amazing. In we found out Show it to the camera. In um we'll embed it. In 2003, that's what we put together. July, uh July 2003. I did a show here called Mentions of Comedy with uh Dan Natterman and Lenny Marcus and and me here. Uh and we did it in the theater here at the uh at the Center for Jewish History, and it was uh it was a great show. And um and that's the only archive we've gotten. Could you imagine that we've been here? Uh are they gonna put this up? I I'm I'm I'm that's a beautiful, first of all, it's a great poster.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I like it. I love the colors. I can't believe it. It is old, it's fun.
SPEAKER_03It's old, but it's like I can't believe how ahead of your time. Like that's a real poster. Like that's a poster that you would see. Like, have you ever gone to the uh Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And they show all the posters, they have that room of posters. That looks like it could be on the wall then. Yeah, to be honest with you, I think this was made by back then I was managed by Eric Hansen. And he you remember him? Yeah, yeah. So he made this poster and uh and said this is a great place for a show. Let's do it. Mentions of comedy, and we So we're now putting something in the archive today. So now I'm putting I brought I brought them something for the archive. I love that. Instead of giving me menorah that survived the war.
SPEAKER_03Well, they should have a comedy section. I mean, like, talk about Freddie Roman, like why don't they have a in Israel?
SPEAKER_02The Anu Museum has a whole section of for comedy. They've so realized that comedy is such a part of Jewish history that they have a whole section, and of course, a video of mine and a picture of me and the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01And I pop out and Emily sits here and you guys can do just a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Sure. Yeah. Emily's gonna move. This is Emily have a seat.
SPEAKER_03Take a seat.
SPEAKER_02Emily's gonna have to.
SPEAKER_03Emily came. We had to have her hair.
SPEAKER_02Well, she she came to the studio ready. Look at that makeup. The teeth are great. The hair, the hairs, did you blow it out? It's gorgeous. Your hair's gorgeous. Your kids will have beautiful hair.
SPEAKER_03That we're gonna have bright hair. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02As an officiant of weddings.
SPEAKER_03Ooh. Yes. This is a sneak attack. I didn't see this coming. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_02I just I'm just telling you, you know, if you find your if you know the right person's there, the soulmate energy, you have to always ask yourself, will you two create Mashiach energy? Do you know what that is?
SPEAKER_04Meshiach.
SPEAKER_02Messiah, messianic energy. That's what the goal is in Judaism, to get to a messianic state. You know that.
SPEAKER_03I I'm learning it now.
SPEAKER_02As you do a comedy show and you're watching everybody dying of laughter, all laughing together. You have a room of 2,000 people laughing together. That's that's messianic energy. Uh unity in laughter and harmony. I love it. I love it. Yeah, and that's so when you're date, when you're with somebody, you need to make sure it's Mashiach energy. When me and Leo look at all he does, yeah, I I don't I just walk on stage. I nothing else I do. Right. I walk on stage, he does everything. I swear to God, I just show up. I show up and give 150%. We were talking before that you you answer emails or something. You're not. I'm doing everything. I do everything.
SPEAKER_03This is no, I am I'm a one-stop show. I need to do less. I Emily's been telling me.
SPEAKER_02And you're in wealth management. Yeah. And wealth management, again, wealth is energy. Money is energy. And so you manage that. It's a crazy thing to manage energy, that kind of that kind of energy. Listen, DM me to get involved with Emily too.
SPEAKER_03I'll take I'll answer her emails too. We gotta make sure she gets some more assistance. Yeah, we need some more assets under management. We got what is the number one thing you like about Jared? Oh, come on.
SPEAKER_00What is the that is a great question? I you know, any room he walks into, people look at him and just like immediately feel connected to him.
SPEAKER_02Amazing.
SPEAKER_00And it's just the it's your energy that you give other people. People feel comfortable the second they're with you. And it's just something that's so palpable and it makes me comfortable. I'm like generally kind of a more nervous person, I think. And you really like to calm everyone around you.
SPEAKER_02That's I don't know how to take a calm. You like about me. How about Emily?
SPEAKER_03Uh I just I love she is a calming person. She makes me feel I call her the human hum. It is just makes me feel so at ease, and people notice it about me. I didn't even notice it about myself. Like people say, oh, you seem so I I got a text yesterday, you seem centered. I've never felt centered. Well, well you're not. I don't even know what that means, but I was like, it Emily has an effect on well, you've also stopped drinking and paying taxes. But that's true. That's true. So that's how that helps everything. The way Emily calms people down and and and just loves is just like, you know, something that I just uh you know, it makes me happy. You know, so um no, and and we are complimentary eaters.
SPEAKER_02What does that mean?
SPEAKER_03We're good at a menu. We we are we know I I know what she's thinking, he knows what I'm thinking when it comes to something on a menu. Like it's just we are simpatico. We can get a third sandwich and we're gonna both be happy with that third sandwich. Oh, well, so so here's here's here's someone's listening being like Jared, you fucking asshole. Emily gave such a sweet answer.
SPEAKER_02I can't uh No, it's a big it's a big thing to take the pressure off of a restaurant order. No pressure on us. Later on in life, you'll see that you'll need glasses. And if but if you're married to someone 22 years younger, you don't. You don't. That's why you call Leo the glasses. Instead of me sitting like this in a restaurant that has one Yortsite candle lighting the whole place, pitch black, and the rest and the menus written in Rashi print, right? Uh Leo lives like this. He'll have the Bronzino with absolutely no bacon on it. Yeah, like Leo. So it's a big thing to the uh complimentary eating. That's amazing. I I was wondering why you called Leo Bifocals.
SPEAKER_03And this was great. Thank you. Thank you, everybody.
SPEAKER_02But most important, um uh September 1st, Netflix. And again, don't just pop it on. Make a thing. Make a thing. Call mom and dad. Go to a there's nothing that makes me happier than people to show me a picture of like their entire family watching my special. Love it. Get together. It's a family, it's a family event. It's not something you just watch and just go to bed afterwards. Make it a family, it's an amazing thing to do with your parents. You go visit your parents. It's a great hour to do it. Great for the holidays. You gotta spend time at their house anyways. Mom ish. Absolutely. After we're showing a dinner, you you sit there and eat it. I am on the road too. Leo? Where are you gonna be? Wow. I'm on the road. We are um we are at uh we Huntington. Thank you so much for selling that out again and again and again. We are adding a uh third matinee. Shut the fuck up. We are adding a matinee on the 13th. Uh so we are on the 10th. The two shows on the 13th. Paramount? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I love that room.
SPEAKER_02It's a one of the three rooms.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna be there too. I that is good. Congratulations. It's a big room, too.
SPEAKER_02No, but it's like a it's a big room, but it's a it's like uh it's a fun room.
SPEAKER_03I'm I'm there as well. That's the only date I have, but I I am so third show is that's awesome. I love you. You're gonna have to get three bricks. The bricks, the bricks, I have those two bricks, I have those two bricks.
SPEAKER_02I have those two bricks. I love them. Um they give you a brick when you start out a show. Um, and then uh we have Leo. Help me out here. Leo, switch to Emily. Yeah, what are you leaving me here? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Um, in addition to the Huntington shows, Modi will be in Montclair, New Jersey. There's a wait list there, Stanford, Connecticut, London. You have two shows. The first show at Drury Lane is sold out. We've added a second show at the London Palladium.
SPEAKER_03How much do you love doing London?
SPEAKER_01How good is London? I love London.
SPEAKER_03It's such a pleasure. You go to London, you go, I I have so many moments, and like I want to go back. I want to go with Emily because like I, you know, when I'm sitting there and you have a show, you're you're sold out already, you got more. You go, I can't believe I'm I'm I'm jokes brought me here. And this is like our third third, fourth. Right. It's just such a wonderful, don't you have that feeling?
SPEAKER_01When you go, you go, the first shows I ever produced for Modi were in London. Really?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, when that show first took over my whole thing. Yeah. Well, this production thing, we couldn't get a uh production, uh, we couldn't get a promo promoter to work with us. And he was like, he called up the place, sent $40,000 in as a deposit. We sold that one show, two, three, four, five. And then we went to now, right. That's the one.
SPEAKER_01So you're in London in November, then you're in Toronto, that's an event from McGendavita Dome, but you can get tickets for it. Then you're in Raleigh, North Carolina, November 10th, Nashville, uh, Tennessee, November 11th, Ottawa, November 19th, Montreal, November 22nd. Yes, great show. Sacramento, that's the rescheduled show because you had a flight cancellation. Great time. December 7th.
SPEAKER_03Sacramento, one of the most underrated comedy cities.
SPEAKER_02It is. Great comedy city. It's gonna be that show wise. Nashville's gonna be amazing. I love I'm looking forward to those shows.
SPEAKER_03You know why Sacramento's so good? Why? Because it's close enough to San Francisco to they're like the sibling of San Francisco that's like, yeah, they're just doing their thing. Like they, yeah, they're crazy there. They're crazy there. And then Sacramento's like has like a little bit of awareness and normalcy.
SPEAKER_01We're also about to announce a big show in December in LA at the Wiltern Theater. Um, there's a wait list feature there, and everyone who signed up for the wait list is gonna get the ticket link a little bit before everyone else as a thank you for being a part of the wait list. And there's also wait lists available for Fort Lauderdale and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. So there's a bunch of stuff on ModiLive.com. Just show up. Use the wait list.
SPEAKER_03I could show up. What you have figured out in this relationship is show up.
SPEAKER_02I've never heard of such a thing. It's insane. I'm sitting there.
SPEAKER_01Monetize your husband.
SPEAKER_02He tattooed his eyes. This is this is the movie to Florida. This is the movie to Florida, cost less. He tattooed an M on his on his chest, right? So uh we're we're dancing at a uh at a um a gay event. At a gay event, short list. And and and some queen goes up and goes, what's the M for? And and and it's either Mshiach, Remoti, or monetize. So he says to the guy, it's for Modi. He goes, it's for mind your own business. But monetize is one of the M's. Monetize monetize your husband.
SPEAKER_01Monetize, moisturize, be nice to each other. And um, if you're enjoying the podcast, like it or hit the five stars on Spotify because it helps, again, feed it to other people who might like it too.
SPEAKER_02Also, quick before we end, uh, the high holidays are coming up, and ladies and gentlemen, Sixth Street Synagogue is a place you should have been. He's been. Jared's been there. It's a very inviting place. And you can dress exactly the way he's dressed, jeans and a t-shirt on your way somewhere. Dress nicely. Come in. Yeah, you did. You did. But it's a very casual place. It's Modi will be there. And I'll be there. And please uh Sixth Street Synagogue, rub a Bellino, it's gonna be amazing.
SPEAKER_03It's fun because you watch Modi go up and it's like you you're like the mayor. It's so great. I I love when you go and you're just so comfortable and in your element. It's great.
SPEAKER_02I'm the most in my element in Schul. Yeah, yeah. It was it was fun to watch. Yeah. Yeah. Same. Okay. Thank you all very much for listening to you. All right, thank you. Lots of success. Thank you.
